What the Arts Mean… To You!

You already know how rewarding the arts are – they’re educational, enriching, moving and provide us with common experiences that bring our community together, something that’s especially important today.

But the arts mean more to Indianapolis than that – much more.

In Indianapolis, the arts mean:

  • A Safer City… through low- and no-cost community outreach programming that impacts the lives of 1.6 million students each year by helping them develop positive self-esteem and self-expression
  • A Stronger Economy… by contributing $468 million in economic activity, 15,000 full-time jobs and $52 million in state and local taxes annually
  • A Vibrant Community… through 7 million visits to diverse performances, exhibitions, and programs – more than the combined total of all professional sports attendance in central Indiana

Now more than ever it’s essential that our elected leaders recognize what the arts mean to us as individuals and as a community. Please contact your city councilor or state official to express how valuable the arts are to you, and to Indianapolis, too. Contacting them is easy: log onto whattheartsmean.org for contact information, and to find out how you can quickly and easily let your elected officials know how much the arts mean… to you!
